Hello Christine,
I really need advice about installing new flooring in our basement area. The problem is, ever since we bought our house, my wife and I have been experiencing breathing problems. The house is circa 1920, and every time we are in the basement we have coughing jags. I have heard there are some hypoallergenic solutions for flooring. What do you suggest?

Bob,
It sounds like there could be several reasons you are coughing. Seriously – it could be the air quality, mold or allergies. I suggest hiring a professional to help solve the problem before your new floor is chosen and installed.
When selecting flooring, consider one of the best hypoallergenic solutions on the market today – an easy care product called Marmoleum. The product is made from natural ingredients (linseed oil) with no VOCs or toxins. It is warm underfoot, very durable, and the natural bactericidal properties of Marmoleum prevents micro-organisms including Salmonella typhiimurium and Staphylococcus aureus from multiplying themselves. It comes in a multitude of colors, faux finishes, and styles. Living Green Magazine said it is the healthiest floor covering on the market. We installed it at CSP International headquarters! It comes in sheets, tiles, and ClickBoard (like wood). Good Luck!
