Is Certification Necessary for
the Home Staging Industry
Certification for a stager is as vital
as a license is to a real estate agent.
The home staging industry is unregulated and there is no “governing and regulating association”.
Don’t let this alarm or dissuade you from pursuing your dream. The Home Inspection industry is non- regulated also, in fact many industries are rooted in non-regulation.
What it means is simply anyone can say they are a stager and anyone can provide a training course, online or in person………….. without ever having staged a home!
Shocking isn’t it? We believe as a new business starting out you need as much ammunition and information as possible to position you as an expert instead of a newbie.
Certification for a stager is as vital as a license is to a real estate agent.
With a business degree and 30+ years in the corporate world, the founder of CSP International™ Staging Business Training Academy always believed, even though no one else did, that adherence to and teaching of best business practices, professional standards & education are crucial components for a strong business foundation. In an emerging industry with no official measure of credibility, we thought it important to provide tangible, measurable elements for Real Estate agents and Sellers to base their buying decisions on, while providing a valuable measure of technical competency for the graduate.
How will your prospect client make a decision to hire you if you have nothing to show for expertise and experience?
CSP International™ reviews its curriculum & process quarterly and subjected its curriculum to intensive scrutiny in order to be RESA Accredited.
Although terms like “Accredited”, “Certified”, and “Approved” are bandied about to lure an unsuspecting would be stager, only CSP International™ Academy has truly credible examinations, licenses the use of it’s mark to successful graduates to indicate, CSP® graduate services conform to standards established by the owner of the mark. The CSP® certification mark of distinction, signifies you have surpassed the required standards for technical competency; as a mark of your professional integrity you will also adhere to a Code of Conduct.
The owner of the mark is required to monitor and control use of the mark by others, which is why we require you to renew your license annually and require work samples reviews prior to awarding various designations. We certainly could take the easy route by simply selling a training, however we believe our integrity would be compromised.
Your own sense of accomplishment is priceless when you hold yourself accountable to a higher level of achievement. Information is important but actionable knowledge is vital when you are starting out into unknown territory. Learn from the best there is. The CSP training instructors and Mentors run some of the most successful staging companies in North America & Australia; staging billions of dollars of real estate between them, they are in the trenches daily. Christine is a charter member of the Real Estate Staging Association, served on the board, has been a featured speaker at local, regional and national industry events.
If you are researching other options be aware Caveat Emptor is in play. Don’t choose a training platform simply on price alone. Surprisingly, some courses are operated and taught by individuals who have never owned a staging company, may have staged few properties, never made a profit but hire slick marketing expertise to put a spin on their program.
Real estate markets change regularly, the information provided in courses need to be updated to fit the current trends, and models, CSP® curriculum is constantly updating, graduates are encouraged to return to class at no charge to brush up skills, we provide resources and ongoing post-graduate training and strong, vital support so you are not alone.
